The Kerem Tunnel, Israel's first bike tunnel, opened as part of the Jerusalem Ring Path. This 42-kilometer cycling route surrounds Jerusalem.

The tunnel connects Nahal Refaim and Emek Motza. The tunnel's southern entry point can be found in Refaim Park below Ein Laban. While the northern entrance can be found in Nahal Ein Kerem about half a km from the Kerem junction.

Elkin's Ministry, Tourism Ministry, Jerusalem Municipality and Gihon Corporation contributed approximately NIS 25,000,000 for the project. Work was performed by the Jerusalem Development Authority.

"The Kerem Tunnel project is the central instrument for achieving the goal to change the concept of transportation in Jerusalem," Elkin stressed. "The new tunnel, which connects to the long Jerusalem Ring Path, will connect the existing bike pathways in the city, as well as the ones that will be laid in the various neighborhoods to encourage cycling among its residents and its visitors and in promoting the green transportation revolution in the capital city."
